Personal foul or personal vendetta?

Sitting back in my favorite chair watching 60 Minutes, a staple of every Sunday evening in our home, I watched a disturbing interview with the ex-NBA referee brought down for betting on NBA games while officiating.

Gambling. A sickness. I get it.

What disgusted me even more was the behind the scenes glimpse at officiating in the NBA. Granted, I don’t know how much credence to give a ‘rogue referee’ whose ‘poor choices’ got him ex-communicated, but it did make me think about the calls seemingly missed by the officials and how ‘certain’ superstars earn the teflon treatment while others regardless of their length of time in the league do not?

As a fan of the game I enjoy watching a series where the underdog manages to beat ‘Goliath’ instead of watching a series unnecessarily extended so the big market teams could advance and the NBA could make more money. Why not script every game? Wouldn’t that produce the desired results?

What if you and a group of your co-workers collaborated to teach a customer a lesson because you didn’t like how they spoke to you? Now I am not defending bad manners because no one should ever be disrespected for performing their job. On the other hand, I suppose it’s really hard to be polite when speaking to a ref who watches you get hacked up and down the court and does nothing about it.  How can you enjoy the game when personal fouls become personal vendettas?

It’s a good thing corporate America doesn’t play by the same rules as the NBA or do they?

When you just can’t work at home

One thing can be a real deterrent to your success online is when your family is not behind what you’re doing. Ok, maybe it’s not that they’re against what you’re doing but they cannot see any value in it. After all, are you making any money doing it? You’re always on the computer! Why exactly do you spend so much time on the internet, what are you doing? If you’re not making any money from the business, why are you spending money? How much money did you spend on your business so we can deduct that when we file our taxes? How much longer will you stay with it before you quit? They say internet businesses are a scam, nobody makes money doing that. Why so many conference calls if you don’t have any money coming in? I’m going to the store, do you need anything? The game comes on in 10 minutes, are you planning to watch it? I’ve been thinking of painting this room, what color do you think I should go with? You haven’t been on the internet for over a week, are you feeling ok? Did you hear that AI left the Grizzlies? YOU have a blog? I know you’re busy, but you gotta come here and see what this guy on tv is doing.

Sometimes I just want to pull my hair out strand by strand.

Now I don’t believe for one minute that my spouse does not want to see me succeed online.  After all, if I win, he wins, right? I also don’t believe that I am the only internet marketer that runs into this.

So tell me, how do you get your family members to understand that building a business online requires your time and in most cases, your money too?

Invite them to join you?

Ask for their help?

Get up 3 hours early every day (weekends too) so you can get some uninterrupted work done before you leave for the office?

Explain and apologize for the fact that what  you’re trying to do requires some of your time on a daily basis (hopefully, without interruption) after which I will be glad to watch the game with you?

Forget about it, I give up!

If you think I am going to end this post with the perfect answer to the problem, I’m not.

This is where you come in.

Your thoughts?

You worked so hard building that 401K and now you’re
watching it slowly disappear.

Does that sound like your story?

Mine too.  As an employee of a large telecom company for more than 30 years, that is what happened to me.  Partially because of the economy and partially due to some hanky panky at the top that caused our stock prices and the value of my 401k plan to plummet.

Uh-oh retirement delayed.

I could sit and cry about it (and I have) or I could lick my wounds and keep on moving (and I have).

I decided to find a way to crack the MLM online formula and I’m going to share with you today…for $1.00.

2nd round bound?

Originally posted 04/06/09: Earlier on I think I mentioned that I was a sports fan. My favorite sport to watch is basketball. I love it!

After last night’s Nuggets game I am optimistic about how they will do in the play-offs. That’s cautiously optimistic. You see, we have been in the play-offs many times but in the most recent years we seem to fizzle out after the first round.

What happens with the Nuggets is that they seem to play really well against the strong teams, and they struggle when they play against the ‘not so strong’ teams.

Anyway, I am glad that they have a little winning streak going on right now as they finish up the regular season. It’s kind of bitter sweet for me because on one hand I love the elevated level of play around play-off time, but on the other hand, it means basketball season is drawing to a close.

I have always been a fan of Allen Iverson’s even before he played for the Nuggets. WhenI read that he had been traded to the Pistons in my daily update from the NBA I felt myself getting choked up. How could they do this? What were they thinking? Then I decided I would never watch the Nuggets again because they traded AI.

In comes Chauncey Billups who I remember watching when he played high school b-ball here in Denver. Great player, but I was mad because we traded my fav, AI.

Although my decision to ‘come back to the Nuggets’ came with kicking and screaming, I now realize the trade was definitely for the greater good of the team. After all, how else would I fill the void left by refusing to watch basketball?

While AI was (is) an exciting player to watch, we weren’t winning with him. Yes, he was enthusiastic and all of that, but bottom line, we weren’t winning. What Chauncey brings to the team is leadership, experience and maturity.

Now all we gotta do is get past the first round of the play-offs.
