Blogging: How I got un-stuck
For me the hardest thing to do was to get from ‘I want to create a blog’ to actually creating it.
The desire was there but I just couldn’t seem to get started because I felt that I had to know everything before I could begin. After examining other blogs I convinced myself that there was no way I could become a blogger because I didn’t know enough and I couldn’t write well enough so I stayed stuck. When I finally got up enough courage to get started, I couldn’t decide on which blogging platform to use. There are many to choose from. My fave is Wordpress. From there I couldn’t decide on which wordpress theme I wanted to use. One-column, three-column, black, red, blue or green? What to do, what to do? Then I had to decide on the best plug-ins (those are the extras you can add to your wordpess blog to make it more functional).
When my husband asked me one day, “How’s your blog coming along?” and I had to tell him that I was still getting it together, I realized that I had been suffering from analysis paralysis. I had talked myself into doing nothing because I wanted to learn everything first. It finally clicked that my blog didn’t have to be perfect and I didn’t have to know everything before I could get started. The most important thing was to go ahead and get started knowing that I would make some mistakes along the way but isn’t that how I have learned some of my best lessons?
